Terms of use
A working draft, written to be accurate about what the software actually does. It has not been reviewed by a solicitor, and should be before the service takes real users.
This is a trial
contact4me is being tested with a small group and is not open to everyone. While that is true, it comes with no promises at all: it may be unavailable, accounts may be deleted while we rebuild things, and messages may not arrive.
What this is
contact4me sends a text message to someone you nominated, when you ask it to from a device that is not your phone.
What this is not
It is not an emergency service. It does not contact the police, the ambulance service, or anyone but the people on your own list. If you are in danger, call 999, or ask someone near you to call.
We cannot promise a message will arrive. Text messages get delayed and get lost, phones are switched off, and networks fail. Do not rely on this as your only plan.
Your side of it
- Only add people who would want to hear from you in an emergency, and tell them they are on your list. The heads-up message exists for that.
- Do not use it to send anyone unwanted messages. Every message is logged.
- Keep your PIN to yourself. Anyone with your mobile number and your PIN can send messages to your list, which is why there is a limit on how many.
Limits
There is a cap on how many messages an account may send in a rolling 30 days. It exists so the service cannot be used to bombard people, and because each message costs money to send.
Suspending an account
We may suspend or delete an account being used to harass people. We will tell you why.
Cost
The service is free to use. If that changes we will say so before it does.
